Money Heist creator Álex Pina is developing an upcoming Netflix show about people buying bunkers after the pandemic, inspired by a news article he read on post-pandemic bunker buyers.

Álex Pina, the creator of Money Heist, is developing a new Netflix show about people buying bunkers after the pandemic. Since wrapping up Money Heist's fifth and final season, also known as La Casa de Papel in Spain, where the show originated, Pina has been working on several upcoming series for the streaming giant. Netflix is preparing to release a prequel series to Money Heist, titled Berlin, centered around Pedro Alonso's fan-favorite character.

According to Collider, Pina is working on another series inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic. The project is currently untitled, and Netflix is keeping most of the details under wraps. However, it is inspired by a Spanish newspaper article citing an increasing amount of people purchasing bunkers after the onset of the pandemic. Additionally, the showrunner released a statement about his inclination to take more considerable risks with his upcoming Netflix projects.

"This new stage is an extension of trust as we stand alongside some of the most important creators of contemporary fiction and bridge the gaps that have existed until very recently between North America and the rest of the world.”Netflix is slated to release Berlin in 2023, so there's no indication of Pina's timeline for the newly announced project.

Money Heist was one of the streaming platform's biggest international successes, an impressive feat for a Spanish-language show. The Netflix series centered around a gang of criminals who would rob Spain's most important financial institutions under the direction of their mysterious ring leader known as the Professor .
