Mohamad Zahir Abdul Khalid retained as Perak Speaker

IPOH: Mohamad Zahir Abdul Khalid has been retained as the Perak State Legislative Assembly Speaker.

During the first day of the state assembly sitting on Monday , Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohammad proposed Mohamad Zahir - an Umno member - to be appointed as the State Speaker.

The former state executive councillor and former Kamunting assemblyman was first appointed to the post in May 2020 following the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan state government then.State exco member Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin proposed and the proposal was supported by fellow state exco member Salbiah Mohamed .Nga Kor Ming , who is the Local Government Development Minister, was absent as he was at Parliament.The state assembly sitting is scheduled to be held until Dec 30.
