MKP founder Jabulani Khumalo to help Zuma challenge his removal as candidate for National Assembly
MKP founder Jabulani Khumalo said they would help former president Jacob Zuma to challenge his removal as the party candidate for ParliamentDespite approaching the Electoral Court to remove former president Jacob Zuma as the leader of the uMkhonto we Sizwe Party , founder of the party Jabulani Khumalo said he was going to help him challenge his removal from the candidates list for Parliament.
Speaking to the media at the Electoral Commission of SA's results operation centre launch on Wednesday, Khumalo, who was representing the party at the launch, said Zuma was the face of the party and they were going to assist him in court to challenge the decision.He said the ongoing legal battle within the party was an internal matter that was going to be resolved by its own leaders.
On Monday, the Apex Court overturned the Electoral Court's earlier decision that set aside the IEC's finding that Zuma was not eligible to stand in the elections for MKP because he was sentenced to 15 months in prison for contempt of court in 2021. Asked why he would help somebody he wanted to remove from the leadership position, Khumalo surprisingly answered: “He is our leader and the face of the party, so we’ve got to help him,” he said.In another matter regarding the electoral body's commitment to deliver free and fair elections, CEO Sy Mamabolo announced the completion of ballot printing and the delivery of more than 90 million ballots around the country.
