Soccer pundit and former Kaizer Chiefs defender Siphiwe Mkhonza has resisted the temptation to give new Orlando Pirates striker coach credit for the turnaround in fortunes. SLSiya Read more:
Pirates had a shaky start coming from the FIFA World Cup recess, as they lost back-to-back matches against Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City.
A week later with Chickelday, formerly with Tottenham Hotspur and Queens Park Rangers, in the Pirates technical team, the Soweto giants went on to thrash Golden Arrows 3-1 and drubbed Stellenbosch 4-1 last weekend. There has been talk that the English striker coach is beginning to have an impact at Pirates but Mkhonza says"it's too early" to judge or get excited because the Buccaneers should be competing with Mamelodi Sundowns.
"Definitely no, because it's too early. Let's wait and see because Pirates should be competing with the likes of Sundowns sitting on top there, they have not delivered in terms of consistency," he said.The analyst went on to say that there's a lot of individual quality at Pirates but they are yet to prove that they can challenge Sundowns as a team.
