Sifiso Maseko, a member of the MK Party and former Head of Infrastructure Development at the Gauteng Department of Health, has been dismissed due to his involvement in the scandalous R588 million AngloGold Ashanti Hospital refurbishment project. The project, plagued by cost overruns, equipment theft, and ultimately abandonment, has led to Maseko's termination and raised serious concerns about corruption within the Gauteng Department of Health.

Sifiso Maseko , a former Head of Infrastructure Development at the Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH), has been dismissed for his role in the controversial R588 million AngloGold Ashanti Hospital (AGA Hospital) refurbishment saga. Maseko, a member of the MK Party, was one of five officials let go following investigations into the project. The AGA Hospital project was initially intended to create a critical care facility with an allocated budget of R50 million.

However, the cost spiraled to R588 million, and the hospital remained unusable despite the significant expenditure. Further complications arose in February 2021 when R23 million worth of equipment was reported missing. While the hospital was officially opened in May 2024 with 80 beds instead of the planned 181, its fate took a turn for the worse. The Gauteng health department terminated its lease with AngloGold Ashanti in August 2024, leaving the facility abandoned. Reports suggest that the hospital has since been taken over by zama zamas, highlighting the project's complete failure. Maseko's involvement in the saga began before his suspension from the GDoH. During this period, he joined the MK Party and served as its Secretary-General until resigning in 2024 to resume his role at the department. However, his past actions have led to his dismissal. Meanwhile, the DA has voiced concerns about the state of the Gauteng Department of Health, alleging a severe financial crisis. The party's criticism suggests a broader systemic issue within the department, raising questions about its ability to manage public funds and deliver essential healthcare services
