The argument hinges on the fact that Zuma was sentenced to 15 months for contempt of the court in 2021.Zuma’s medical parole was challenged and overturned by the Constitutional Court, yet President Cyril Ramaphosa granted Zuma sentence remission under section 84 of the Constitution. Mpofu stated that the case was simply about the denial of someone’s rights to participate in politics.
