Australian allrounder Mitch Marsh has effectively given himself out when no one else was certain in a brain fade in the second Test against India. Marsh was adjudged caught behind from Ravichandran Ashwin’s bowling for nine on Saturday at Adelaide Oval. The No.6 batsman attempted a forward defensive shot to an Ashwin spinner in the middle session of the second day of play. The ball passed through to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant who, along with Ashwin, made half-hearted appeals.
I’m not convinced the umpire was going to give this,” Aaron Finch said on Channel 7. “He hit his front pad. Was there a scratch on it as well? He gave himself away.” But replays showed Marsh had missed the ball by some margin, though there was a noise from his bat striking his front bad. “No one was convinced,” Finch went on. “He just turned to walk off. I don’t think he got anywhere near that.
