Brighton, N.Y. — Police tracked down a missing 14-year-old girl from Brighton more than 300 miles away Monday night in New York City.
Tue, March 26th 2024 at 12:25 PMDavid Catholdi, chief of the Brighton Police Department, speaks during a press conference Tuesday, March 26, 2024, after a missing 14-year-old girl from Brighton was found safely in New York City the previous night.
"These are the cases that scare you in law enforcement," said Major Miklos Szoczei from New York State Police. "When a young person like this is no longer in the area in which she resides."Police said the teen had been in contact with someone via online chat app. They tracked a phone number to an apartment in New York City.
"We've got to look at exactly how she left Brighton," Catholdi said. "But regardless of how she left Brighton, she is a 14-year-old child going to New York City without her parents' consent."
