Communities have a vital role to play in being hands-on in combating social illnesses such as violence and teenage pregnancy
Cape Town: In response to high rates of teenage pregnancy and gender-based violence-related crimes in the Western Cape, the Minister of Social Development Lindiwe Zulu has launched an outreach programme targeting local schools.
Zulu said the programme sought to engage and inspire as many young people as possible. She emphasised the importance of young people seeing that their struggles are validated and that their well-being is prioritised by local and national governments. The school has worked in partnership with several NGOs in an effort to educate children on career readiness, and how to access tertiary education, bursaries and learnerships.
