Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu is set to visit Stilfontein to receive an update on efforts to combat illegal mining.

Two weeks after appointing a task team to tackle illegal mining in North West , Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu is scheduled to visit Stilfontein on Friday. The area has faced severe illegal mining activities, prompting a strong response from the police and the army. Mchunu will receive an update on the progress made by mining experts in rescuing hundreds of illegal miners. His predecessor, Bheki Cele, had conducted a similar visit a year ago, promising to return but never did.

During his last visit two weeks ago, Mchunu met with local authorities and community leaders to address the challenges posed by illegal mining. The experts have completed phases 1 and 2, and Mchunu is expected to review the findings of a camera sent down shaft 11 at the old Buffelsfontein gold mine
