Vet Gemma Tyner carried out the operation on Prince Buttons along with a team of surgeonsA miniature donkey has been given a new lease of life after vets in North Yorkshire fitted him with a pacemaker.
Buttons, as he is known, is five years old and lives with Mrs Hart along with his half-brother Rolo, who was the first to spot he was in pain. "Then he got up and was a bit wobbly, but he walked into the stable and started eating. He once did it four days running. We always knew it would happen because Rolo would always start to shout."Prince Buttons is one of only a few donkeys in the world to have a pacemaker fitted
The rare operation was carried out by Gemma Tyner from Rainbow Equine Hospital along with Celia Marr from Rossdales Veterinary Surgeons in Newmarket, who are both large animal internal medicine specialists.The five-hour procedure involved inserting the pacemaker, which is the size of a large box of matches, into the donkey's neck.
