A Milwaukee man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after he shot a person in the arm during a New Year’s Eve party in Aurora, officials said.

Cameron J. Sebastion, 25, agreed to the prison sentence in exchange for a guilty plea of attempted first-degree murder, Kane County prosecutors said in a news release.Sebastion was attending a party at a home in the 800 block of Huntington Drive in Aurora on Dec. 31, 2021, prosecutors said. Shortly after midnight, Sebastion, who officials said was high on marijuana, fired multiple shots from a handgun in the direction of several people, according to the release.

One person was struck in the right arm, officials said. Sebastion told police he believed other partygoers were armed and planned to kill him, so he fired his gun first, according to officials.Aurora police later received a call from a hospital that someone walked in with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was treated and released from the hospital shortly after, officials said.

Sebastion must serve at least 85% of the sentence and receives credit for 490 days served in the Kane County jail.
