The Warm Home Discount scheme is returning for winter 2023/24 - and if you're eligible, you will get £150 directly off your electricity bill
Millions of pensioners across the UK will soon get a letter from the Department for Work and Pensions about vital energy assistance worth £150. Set to make a comeback for the winter season of 2023/24, the Warm Home Discount scheme will give those who qualify a discount of £150 on their electricity bills.
Recipients can expect to receive their letters from the DWP starting this October, with allowances to be made until the end of March next year. Rather than a cash being paid into bank accounts, the subsidy will instead be applied as a discount on your energy account balances, or as a top-up voucher for prepayment meter consumers.
Those who are dual fuel customers can inquire with their energy supplier about potentially applying this discount to gas charges instead. Eligibility checks should begin by confirming your energy provider participates in the Warm Home Discount scheme. You should get automatic entitlement if your energy supplier takes part or if you or your partner receives the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit referred to as "core group one". To get the money, you or your partner also need to have been claiming Pension Credit on the qualifying date, which for this winter was August 11.
You should also get the discount automatically in England and Wales if you claim certain benefits and have high energy costs, reports the Mirror. If you live in Scotland and you claim benefits, you’ll need to apply for the Warm Home Discount through your supplier under the “broader group” criteria.
