Miek might be a cute little bug in the MCU, but that's not how it went in the comics. Introduced in Planet Hulk, Miek becomes obsessed with vengeance, eventually transforming into a monstrous final form and destroying Sakaar.
In the MCU, Thor's pal Miek is a fun little bug alien who has a mechanical exoskeleton and talks in an unintelligible language. The hero is mostly played for humor, but in Marvel Comics, Miek becomes a horrifying monster who destroys the Hulk’s entire world. In the comics, Miek is a member of the native race of the planet Sakaar. His hive and family were killed by Imperials, the dominant race on the planet Sakaar and the ones responsible for enslaving Hulk as a gladiator in their arenas.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY After the death of his wife, Caiera, and the near destruction of Sakaar, Hulk was driven to seek vengeance on the Illuminati of Earth because he mistakenly believed that they were responsible for the faulty warp drive that exploded and destroyed his world and life. Miek and the Warbound accompanied him, and the insectoid alien was the most vocal proponent for destroying the planet.
Miek Goes from Plucky Hero to Monster The differences in the Miek character from the screen to the page is a good illustration of the overall differences of Marvel Comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even before his turn to villainy, Miek was a fierce warrior and tragic figure who lost his family, hive, and eventually species. His motivation is unending vengeance and anger, as opposed to the more comical figure of his movie counterpart.
Miek Embodies Hulk's Rage Miek is a dark reflection of Hulk, having become obsessed with his promise never to stop making his enemies pay. While Hulk relented when he found out the truth of what happened to Sakaar, Miek - who had lost even more than the Hulk - couldn't make peace with the crimes perpetrated on the planet, and ultimately chooses death over reconciliation with the Hulk after adopting more and more hulking, powerful forms.
