Microsoft is quickly moving to fix a widespread outage of its online services, which includes a loss of access to its cloud services and its tools for communication.
Tens of thousands of people reported Wednesday morning that they were unable to access their Microsoft accounts, according to Downdetector. Some were unable to access the email service Outlook, the messaging service Teams, and the cloud gaming service Xbox Live. Microsoft reported that it was working on fixing the problem, and the number of reports of outages has declined throughout the morning.
The company previously claimed that the problem was related to"networking configuration issues" and that it was attempting to determine the best way to respond. It also said it was looking into issues with its Azure cloud computing services. The outage came days after Microsoft announced that it was reducing its workforce by 10,000 jobs in an effort to cut costs.
