Microsoft confirms that it is building a large language model to go up against OpenAI and Google, with MAI-1 having always been on the cards.
In a surprise announcement to some, Microsoft says it is working on a large language model of its own.
In fact, some executives at Microsoft were shocked that the company’s ambitions to build an LLM of its own one day to rival that of OpenAI and Google is doing the rounds in the news cycle.He first explained the fact that Microsoft has been working with OpenAI to help train the startup’s models with the supercomputers that the company builds.
The CTO then went on to highlight the fact that Microsoft has also been training its own LLM, with one of them called MAI-1, for a number of years now.
