The Surface Pro X is Microsoft’s premium convertible tablet, the company’s equivalent of the iPad Pro. It has cameras on both the front and the rear of the device, but owners have reported that the cameras have failed after a recent update. A Surface Pro X owner contacted me this morning, saying he’d been in touch with Microsoft support, who have confirmed it’s a known problem. “The Surface Pro X device is currently going through a general issue with the camera, and it will not be resolved by troubleshooting it,” a Microsoft support agent told the customer.
“Our team has informed us that the issue is due to an update which our team are currently working on resolving.” The disabled cameras means that features such as Windows Hello, which allows customers to log in with face recognition, simply don’t work. “I thought my SPX camera had been damaged somehow because I couldn't get Windows Hello face unlock working after the last update,” reported a Surface Pro X owner onDespite Microsoft’s support agent claiming that the issue can’t be resolved by troubleshooting, it seems other customers have discovered a workaround.
