Michigan State University Police announced the names of two of the three victims killed in the shooting that occurred on campus Tuesday. The shooting also left five other students hospitalized.

Brian Fraser, a sophomore from Grosse Pointe, Michigan, and Alexandria Verner, a junior from Clawson, Michigan, were both killed in the shooting. The third victim has been identified by police, but authorities have said they have elected not to disclose the name based on the family's wishes.

"With respect to the family’s wishes, we will not be releasing the third victim’s name at this time. We sincerely ask the media and community members to respect the families’ privacy," the police department said in a statement. Police also confirmed that the five students injured in the shooting remain in the hospital in critical condition.

The shooting began Tuesday evening around 8:18 p.m. local time at Berkey Hall, an academic building on campus, with gunfire later reported at a recreation center. Police arrived at the first location within minutes of shots being fired, and university authorities issued a campuswide lockdown. The manhunt continued for a suspect for several hours until police found that the suspected shooter, 43-year-old Anthony McRae, had killed himself off campus.

Authorities have not determined the motive for the shooting, but they are continuing to investigate the incident. Police say they will not provide another briefing on updates regarding the investigation until later this week.
