Canada Border Services Agency tipped off Sault Ste. Marie Police about a suspected impaired driver on the early morning of June 9
A Michigan man was charged early Friday morning with impaired driving while trying to cross the Canadian border.
Sault Police say officers were dispatched to the Canadian side of International Bridge at around 4 a.m. on June 9 after after a call from the Canada Border Services Agency, saying they "had intercepted a suspected impaired driver." “Upon arrival, officers developed grounds to believe the driver’s ability to operate a vehicle was impaired by alcohol,” says a news release from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. Jason Stanaway, 43, of Negaunee, Michigan is charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration .None of the allegations have been tested in court and Stanaway is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
