Leeds United reached two European semi-finals and challenged at the summit of the Premier League and Michael Bridges has discussed his frustration at not winning silverware
Michael Bridges admits his 'biggest regret' is failing to win silverware during his time at Leeds United. The former Whites striker was part of the team under David O'Leary which reached two European semi-finals while also challenging at the summit of the Premier League.
It is an era which is fondly remember by Leeds supporters, despite the financial troubles which soon followed which led to a host of first-team stars leaving ahead of relegation. However, Bridges insists the exciting squad assembled should have delivered trophies at Elland Road. He told the Official Leeds United Podcast: "It is probably my biggest regret. I was chatting to a fan about a month ago, and I think I upset him initially because he'd said what a successful team you were playing in Bridgey, we loved watching you'."I said 'mate, you've got to retract that, we weren't successful because we didn't win anything'.
"Eddie Gray's team have been successful in the past, there have been teams who have won things. We weren't successful, just an unbelievable group of footballers at the time with an unbelievable togetherness, but we weren't successful. "He got it in the end, he was really peed off when I said it. It's my biggest regret we never achieved what we should have done."
