Sergeant Patrick Mthethwa, who has been working for the SA Police Service for 13 years under the crime prevention unit, told the court that he left the crime scene where Meyiwa was shot and killed because he could not ascertain the nature of the scene
As the trial against the five men accused of killing Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana skipper Senzo Meyiwa gains momentum, state prosecutor Advocate George Baloyi this week called into the dock the second state witness, a police sergeant from Vosloorus Police Station who was among the first people to receive the call relating to the shooting incident in October 2014.
Mthethwa said he and a sergeant Mathebula found a man who identified himself as “uncle Themba”, who also had no knowledge of what had transpired at the house in Vosloorus where Meyiwa was shot, prompting them to rush to the nearby Botshelong Hospital to gather more information about the incident. He also said that before driving to the hospital, Themba opened the door and briefly had a look inside the house, and he noticed two cans on the dining room floor. He also noticed that the door was damaged.
