Meet Norquay, a three-year-old Labrador retriever cross, who has joined the dog team to assist with the mental health of Transit Police officers and civilian staff.
A day in the life of Accredited Facility Dog Norquay doesn't seem all that different from the typical working day of many humans.
Norquay started his official career in the squad on Dec. 12, after he successfully completed the AFD training program. He provides physical, social and emotional support to all employees at the office, including transit police officers and civilian staff. He possesses a high level of resilience, which makes him well cut out for this role, his handler said.
While Norquay's role is often confused with that of a therapy dog, Parker and Const. Amanda Steed, transit police media relations officer, note that his job is different.
