Flooding is likely in some areas this afternoon
The yellow weather warning covers parts of Greater Manchester, including parts of Rochdale, Oldham and Tameside. It also covers parts of Cumbria, the North East, Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and the Midlands.
The thunderstorm warning will come into force at 2pm today and last until 7pm. Forecasters predict that heavy rain will hit the areas covered by the warning, as well as the possibility of some thunder and lightning.Flooding is likely in some areas. Travel disruption on the roads is expected, as well as some delays on trains and buses due to the heavy rain.
According to the Met Office, 'there is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life'. The Met Office said: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms will spread eastwards this afternoon before slowly fading later this evening. "Where storms are particularly frequent 20 to 30 mm of rain may build up over 2 or 3 hours. Frequent lightning, hail and gusty winds will be additional hazards in some places."
A number of other thunderstorm warnings have also been issued for parts of Scotland and Ireland. These also come into force this afternoon and will remain in place until later this evening.
