A century-old church in Mesquite is moving closer to being restored, thanks to a donation from a local group.

The Ladies Auxiliary to the Mesquite Elks Lodge recently gave Historic Mesquite, Inc., $10,000 to help the nonprofit renovate New Hope Church, which was built around 1906, according to the nonprofit. Renovations will update the inside of the church for weddings and other events while preserving its original façade.
Historic Mesquite, Inc., says it’ll need around $250,000 to renovate the church. With the Mesquite Elks Lodge’s donation, they now have almost 70% of the money needed for the project. “The Auxiliary has supported Historic Mesquite, Inc. for more than 20 years, and this is another important project we think will have a lasting impact on our community,” Elks Auxiliary member Donna Woodard said in a news release.
