Mercedes Schlapp, the White House director of strategic communications, is leaving her post to join President Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign.

“Thrilled to be joining the President’s re-election campaign!” Schlapp wrote on Twitter on Monday. “@realDonaldTrump is the best fighter for the American people we have ever had and he will be re-elected!”Campaign manager Brad Parscale announced Schlapp’s move, tweeting that she would help with both strategy and Latino outreach, thanks to her bilingual capabilities.

“We’re good friends and it’s great to have another die-hard @realDonaldTrump supporter!” Parscale said of Schlapp in his tweet. Schlapp, who joined the White House team in September 2017, is leaving at a time of leadership changes for the White House communications team. Stephanie Grisham, a spokeswoman for first lady Melania Trump, became press secretary last week, replacing Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
