More experienced Mavs football team opens 19th season tonight

Memorial head football coach James Crocker begins his fourth season Thursday night, looking for a bounce back season and a return to the 6A playoffs.Hoping to avoid back-to-back season-opening defeats for the first time in seven years, Pasadena Memorial High School’s varsity football team hosts an opponent Thursday night that nary a soul has heard of.

Memorial is just 7-10-1 for openers, but they’ll be taking on a Randle program that will be completely void of seniors but stacked with sophomores and juniors. Helping the situation will be the return of their quarterback, Hayden Stallings, who will be providing senior leadership and a strong arm. With last Thursday’s lightning show, the team’s final scrimmage was canceled, forcing Memorial to do much of their evaluating on the Angleton scrimmage.
