Meghan Markle's surprise appearance at Wimbledon last week rubbed a lot of royal fans the wrong way.
She's ruffling feathers again for seemingly putting on airs, this time for refusing to allow fans to take her picture while making an unexpected appearance at Wimbledon last week. Reports indicate that's security team shut down anyone trying to take a cellphone photo of the Duchess of Sussex, as she was court-side in a"private" capacity.
Meghan made a surprise appearance at Court 1 at Wimbledon last Thursday, to cheer on her good friend Serena Williams. It seems pretty innocuous, except that her security team reportedly stopped people from taking photos of her -- even when they were just trying to capture their own photos of the game. Ex-BBC star Sally Jones claims she didn't even know the duchess was there until she was asked not to take photos of her.
The 64-year-old former sports presenter claimed she became confused when a royal protection officer told her,"Would you not take photographs of the Duchess. She's here in a private capacity." She elaborated,"I felt this tap on my shoulder and was asked not to take pictures of the Duchess -- but I had no idea she was there until then. I was absolutely gobsmacked."
A royal source explained,"It's not uncommon for personal protection officers accompanying any members of the royal family to ask people not to take pictures so they can engage with people and events rather than camera phones." Meghan was also criticized for taking up a large number of seats, which were left empty for her protection.as many as 40 seats were kept empty around her, while a long line of VIPs had to wait outside the court for a seat.
