Percy Malepe (27) from Diepsloot in Johannesburg is the founder and chairperson of Ikemeleng Foundation – an NPO that feeds 400 people a day, offers free sports and afterschool classes to learners and a food garden. | YouMagazine

Percy Malepe founded Ikemeleng Foundation, which feeds hundreds of people, empowers the youth and operates a food garden.

Percy reached out to charities that were were distributing food in the area to help him get started. “There were a lot of kids at our local schools who were struggling. We wanted to fill in that gap by helping them with extra classes.” “People will greet us when they see us and some will even say, ‘That guy takes care of us’. You can just see it with the respect they show us.” Percy is passionate about helping his community because he knows what it’s like to try to survive in hard times.

“I remember the last time I lived with a friend. The person was using drugs and for some reason I did not get involved in that. I eventually moved out.
