I’m the world's only solar eclipse journalist. I'm the editor of WhenIsTheNextEclipse.com and author of The Complete Guide To The Great North American Eclipse of April 8, 2024 and When Is The Next Eclipse? A traveler’s guide to total solar eclipses 2024-2034.

What if your country suddenly had three major solar eclipses in three years? As the world’s attention fades fromA few years ago, Argentina and Chile staged two total solar eclipse s—one a glorious sight and another a rain-affected, COVID-affected event—but it's another Spanish -speaking country that is about to take the eclipse baton.MORE FROM FORBESAlternatives: Greenland and Iceland.

The east of Spain—including Valencia—may seem perfect for this eclipse. Not so. This pre-sunset eclipse will occur 10 degrees above the west in northwest Spain and just two degrees from Mallorca, meaning the east coast will miss out. Although Galicia in the northwest and the northern coast of Spain will have great views, clear skies are most likely on the plains of Spain. That makes Panenica, Burgos and Valladolid the best places to aim for.

Go to Luxor, Egypt, and you'll get an almost guaranteed clear sky for a totality lasting 6 minutes and 23 seconds. But the price will be as high as the temperatures, which will reach about 41° F. In Spain—where totality tops out at 4 minutes 39 seconds in Tarifa on its south coast—anywhere between Cadiz and Malaga is within the path of totality. This post-breakfast eclipse will be about 37 degrees, about halfway up the sky in the east. This long"ring of fire"—lasting up to 7 minutes and 10 seconds in Spain—will mostly happen at sea but will be seen from some spectacular locations. Spain's Gulf of Cadiz is where to go, anywhere from the Portuguese border to Tarifa.

For eclipse chasers, the temptation to move to Spain must be strong. But not for long. In the wake of the Spanish trio, Australia has four total solar eclipses coming up—2028, 2030, 2037 and 2038.
