Sierra Space is developing Spectre, a multi-purpose spacecraft with applications in in-orbit servicing and military operations.

Sierra Space is building on its success with recent military contracts to develop a pair of in-orbit and transportation spacecraft.Sierra Space, a spinoff of the Sierra Nevada Corporation, announced its intentions to develop a multi-purpose spacecraft called “Spectre.” Intended as an in-orbit servicing vehicle, the craft could have civilian and military applications in the future., Sierra Space has recently been in the news for its $1.3 billion in defense-related contracts.

To support the development of space vehicles for the defense market, Sierra Space has established a specialized test lab in Florida to design, build, and test new technologies. The company is headquartered in Louisville, Colorado.Sierra Space’s in-orbit servicing vehicle, “Spectre,” was created to address the need for automated maintenance functions at the International Space Station.

Sierra Space wanted a means to develop and test the technology in space before sending it back to Earth for further inspection. The capsule is designed to have a capacity of 551 pounds to 1,543 pounds .
