In a new book published by A24, the influential casting director shares her unique approach to finding tomorrow’s stars.
, published by A24, she’s finally taking stock of her long and meandering career as a casting director. But in the process of putting it together, Venditti began to figure out just what it is that compels her to keep hunting for breakout talent in the most unexpected of places, three decades after she started. “With everything I do, it’s really about realising that vision of who the best person is for the project,” says Venditti.
After two years, Venditti moved to work under the celebrated stylist Lori Goldstein; her first shoot was with Shalom Harlow, photographed by Steven Meisel. It was around then, though, that she realised she wanted more from the creative experience than the clothes themselves, and became frustrated by the narrow definitions of beauty the industry upheld.
In keeping with the serendipitous nature of her discoveries over the years, Venditti’s introduction to the world of film and television happened as the result of a chance meeting – well, two.
