Marvel fans are taking to social media in droves to express their sadness over the latest Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer. Expected to be the final film that will include the Guardians in their current form, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will also mark the last Marvel film to be made by writer and director James Gunn, who has recently become the co-CEO of Marvel’s chief rival, DC Studios.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY The official Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer has arrived online after its exclusive debut at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year, with Marvel Studios finally choosing to release the clip worldwide after showing it again during their panel at Brazil’s CCXP. Promising an emotional final outing for the space-faring team, countless fans have reacted to the new footage and expressed their own sadness for what will be the Guardians’ swan song.
Already intimately familiar with losing the ones they love; it is likely that the ragtag team of intergalactic heroes will face another haunting death during their final cinematic outing. While the trailer already features a shot of Nebula carrying Quill's body, it seems unlikely that Marvel would spoil such an important death in such a cavalier way. Rather, one possible character to face the proverbial chopping block may be Bautista’s Drax.
Another possibility lies in the form of the gun-toting, smart-mouthed Rocket. With the original Groot’s death mostly keenly felt by Cooper’s CGI character, having Rocket sacrifice himself to protect the new Groot and the rest of the team would certainly be the perfect poetic mirror of the first film’s ending. However it plays out, from all appearances, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.
