Mboweni passed on last night after a short illness at a Johannesburg hospital.

Rwandan President Paul Kagame says the late former Finance Minister Tito Mboweni was a giant voice for Africa and a champion of continental integration.The former Finance Minister was one of the admirers of Kigali’s economic success.

President Kagame has expressed his condolences to the family, friends of Mboweni and to President Cyril Ramaphosa and the people of South Africa. President Cyril Ramaphosa says we have lost a compatriot who has served as an activist, economic policy innovator and champion of labour rights.The late former Finance Minister’s family says he was family orientated and had the country’s best interest at heart.“ Mboweni was a family loving person, very humble, loved his community that is why voluntarily joined the ANC in 1980 … went to Lesotho. Then when he came back, he continue mobilizing workers prior to the 1994 and after 1994.
