Kylian Mbappe has made a FIFA World Cup promise following France's defeat to Argentina in the final on Sunday.

The Paris Saint-Germain superstar suffered heartbreak as La Albiceleste defeated Les Bleus to walk away with the famous trophy following Emiliano Martínez's heroics in the penalty shootout. Mbappe scored twice in the first 90 minutes before adding another in extra-time to force the game to go to penalties, but this was not enough to see Didier Deschamps' side claim a historic back-to-back World Cup win.

Had they done so, the 24-year-old would have become the first forward to win two consecutive World Cup titles since Brazil icon Pele did in 1958 and 1962. Despite not getting his hands on the trophy this time around, Mbappe did walk away from the Qatar showpiece with the Golden Boot award after scoring eight times in the tournament.

The PSG star has since taken to social media to post a picture of himself walking past the World Cup trophy and a caption promising that they will be back for the title next time.
