The Chronicle's Andrew Dansby chats with the director about his new film"Asteroid City," which has an all-star cast including Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Tilda Swinton, Edward Norton, Liev Schreiber, Margot Robbie, Jeff Goldblum and Willem Dafoe, is set at a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention in a fictional town in the American Southwest in the mid-1950s.
Anderson, who has spent much of his adult life in New York City and Paris, was born in Houston in 1969. His early films, such as"Bottle Rocket" and"Rushmore," were shot in Texas but his later, more intricately designed works such as"The Grand Budapest Hotel,""The Darjeeling Limited,""Moonrise Kingdom,""The French Dispatch" and the Spanish-shot"Asteroid City," have wider canvases and bigger budgets.cary.
