The city just adopted another hotel to transform into temporary housing for the homeless, but El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells says the hotel-voucher program isn't doing anything to HELP these people or the surrounding communities. More info:
SAN DIEGO – Recent efforts by city leaders to quell the rise in homelessness in San Diego County have grown more desperate in the face of the oncoming election season. The city has just taken over a 34-room hotel with the intention of turning it into a non-congregate shelter for seniors experiencing homelessness.
Recently the county has come under fire for their motel-voucher program, with some cities in San Diego County claiming they are now housing unproportionable amounts of homeless through hotels and motels. Mayor of El Cajon Bill Wells says that though El Cajon makes up 5% of the San Diego population, it now holds 45% of the homeless who have hotel vouchers. He joined KUSI’s Paul Rudy to discuss how he thinks the issue of homelessness would be best addressed.
