A poison specialist and former doctor at the famed Mayo Clinic has been accused of fatally poisoning his wife amid marital difficulties – allegedly trying to have her body cremated immediately while planning to cash in a $500,000 life insurance, according to a criminal complaint.
Her condition worsened — with heart problems, fluid buildup in her lungs and the removal of part of her colon — before she died from organ failure four days later, the outlet said.Connor tried to persuade the Southeast Medical Examiner’s Office not to perform an autopsy and pushed to have his wife cremated immediately, claiming her death was “natural,” according to a criminal complaint.
But she was never diagnosed with the illness and the ME’s Office notified Rochester police on Aug. 21 that Betty’s death was suspicious, the Post Bulletin reported.Bowman was brought to the Mayo Clinic’s St. Mary’s Hospital on Aug. 16 and died of organ failure four days later.
On the night before she was hospitalized, the man told police Betty texted him that she was at home drinking with Connor. The next morning, she messaged him that she felt ill and thought a smoothie was to blame.Connor attempted to persuade the Southeast Medical Examiner’s Office to not perform an autopsy and to have the body cremated immediately.
She did not suffer from gout, a condition that causes intense pain in the joints, officials said. However, toxicology reports showed it was present in her system the day after she was hospitalized.Conor claimed in his wife’s obituary that she died “following a sudden onset of autoimmune and infectious illness.
“Her kindness and intelligence was noticed and valued by friends and strangers alike,” the obit says about Betty.
