It may be a new race weekend, but a familiar name secured provisional pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix: Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. Here’s what you need to know: Charles Leclerc may have been on pole last year, but in a shock, he was knocked out during Q1 on Saturday, slated for a provisional P19 start. It’s the first time since Monaco 2019 that he has been eliminated in Q1.
Pierre Gasly’s provisional P4 start could be in trouble. The Alpine driver was noted for two separate impeding incidents, and the stewards have decided to investigate post-qualifying. In Monaco, Leclerc was dealt a three-place grid penalty for blocking Lando Norris.
