SuperSport United coach Kaitano Matthews reveals the reasons behind Tashreeq Morris's move to Kaizer Chiefs, highlighting the financial disparity between the clubs and the strategic value of Christian Saile's acquisition.
SuperSport United boss, Kaitano Matthews , has opened up about the circumstances surrounding Tashreeq Morris 's move to Kaizer Chiefs in January. The Pretoria-based club agreed to a swap deal that saw Morris join the Glamour Boys in exchange for Christian Saile . Morris, who was 31 years old at the time, had been a key player for SuperSport United but ultimately decided to pursue a more lucrative offer from Chiefs.
Matthews revealed that Chiefs' offer was significantly higher than what SuperSport could match. He explained that he had to consider both the club's finances and the potential for Morris's dissatisfaction if he remained at SuperSport. Despite Morris's departure, Matthews emphasized that he was able to secure a player who better suited his tactical needs in Saile. Saile's pace and ability to break defensive lines were crucial factors in the decision. Matthews stated that while Morris, Bradley, and Nurkovic were all solid strikers, none possessed the same level of speed as Saile. He acknowledged that the decision to let Morris go was difficult but ultimately beneficial for both the club and the team. Matthews believes that Saile's acquisition adds a valuable dimension to SuperSport's attack. Morris, meanwhile, has made two consecutive appearances for Chiefs after serving a suspension for the Soweto derby. He featured in Amakhosi's 2-2 draw against AmaZulu FC and a 1-0 victory over Orlando Pirates
