The designation, to save on Murray’s $4,687,500 US cap hit, came without details from the team.Murray was thought to have recovered from a concussion and ankle injury suffered late in the regular season, but was relegated to the third netminder behind Ilya Samsonov and Joseph Woll when the playoffs ended.
The Maple Leafs announced today that goaltender Matt Murray is out indefinitely and will be placed on Injured Reserve/Long Term Injury prior to the start of the season.At least one other deletion via trade is expected by training camp to get cap compliant. Wednesday’s move would seem to settle the short-term goaltending plan as Samsonov was just awarded $3.55 million by an arbitrator in a one-year deal is the likely No. 1, backed by Woll, who can’t be moved back and forth from the AHL Marlies any longer without going through waivers.
