Bulk water supplier Rand Water announced an emergency shutdown on Friday (4 November).

Bulk water supplier Rand Water announced an emergency shutdown on Friday due to a major burst on the A6 Pipeline, which supplies water from Vereeniging purification works to Zwartkopjes pump station.

Joburg Water said in a media statement that the water shutdown would be in effect from 18h00 Friday night and last for about 30 hours. While Rand Water and Johannesburg Water infrastructure – including towers and reservoirs – will have maximum capacity during the shutdown, several reservoirs, towers and direct feeds will be affected – should the water level drop to critical levels.“Johannesburg Water encourages residents to reduce consumption and use water for human and household needs, which will significantly assist in sustaining supply of affected systems,” said the water supplier.
