Masoli sidelined, but it's believed Redblacks QB could return from leg injury this season

Masoli, who missed much of the 2019 CFL season with a torn ACL, left the game on crutches. The veteran quarterback had an MRI done Sunday afternoon and the news may not be great, but it really could be worse.

It’s believed the Redblacks will announce on Monday that Masoli sustained a bone-based injury to his leg, not a ligament one. That would mean a much better timeline for recovery. While he will miss several weeks of the season, there’s also a chance he could return to play in 2022. That means the Redblacks will push ahead into their next game Saturday in Hamilton, likely using backup Caleb Evans as the starter. Evans saw significant playing time in 2021 after injuries to Matt Nichols and Dominique Davis.

It’s expected the CFL will announce a decision on a suspension for Marino on Monday. It’ll be interesting to see if the Riders react and maybe come up with some punishment of their own for a player who’s a multi-time repeat offender.
