The second annual Masithethe! isiXhosa school competition was successfully held in Stellenbosch last weekend:

The competition featured public speakers from schools in Stellenbosch, surrounding areas and Cape Town, all eager to participate in promoting the isiXhosa language.

The students were well-prepared, and the excitement in the air was palpable as the winners were announced. The first, second and third place winners received R500, R300 and R200 respectively, and all participants received a Masithethe! certificate.ENSafrica’s Jan Viviers, the official sponsor of Masithethe!, was present to share in the excitement of the day. Language experts from the University of Stellenbosch also joined the event as special judges during the final round.

Learners from Groote Schuur High School entertained participants with singing and dancing performances, while guitarists from the Paul Roos Senior Band played background music throughout the day. The success of the Masithethe! isiXhosa competition shows the dedication and passion of the Xhosa-speaking school community in the Western Cape to promote and celebrate their language and culture.
