The Maryland State House in Annapolis went on lockdown shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday over a reported security threat.

People at the scene were told to lock doors and turn out the lights, and law enforcement from three Annapolis agencies responded. About a half-hour after the lockdown began, Maryland State Police worked to escort out staff and other personnel who had been sheltering within the State House building. Just before 7 p.m., officials issued an all-clear notice.

In a joint statement, Senate President Bill Ferguson and House Speaker Adrienne A. Jones said: “We want to thank all the law enforcement officers who responded today. We and everyone else in the legislative complex are grateful for their presence as we continue to do the people’s work.”
