Households could make big savings by making a simple change

It’s not just energy bills wreaking havoc on household finances this year, as food prices have also been taking their toll.

Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis has been urging people to start making preparations for Christmas early to help reduce the financial strain of the big day. The branded packaging of products like baked beans, biscuits, or sauces may look more opulent, but underneath the actual product is practically no different.

According to MSE, the biggest savings don’t come from switching from premium brands to manufacturer brands, but rather for those who are already lower down the brand chain. The challenge comes after a recent study by consumer watchdog Which? found that staple food items, like rice, baked beans and tea bags, can cost more than three times as much if budget versions are unavailable.
