Markus Jooste: How Steinhoff fraudster got away as Hawks were closing in
Markus Jooste's sensational death, by his own hand on Thursday, may have seemed like a bolt from the blue, but it came as law enforcement authorities were finally on the verge of arresting him after years of inaction.
On Wednesday, the Financial Sector Conduct Authority issued an excoriating ruling on Jooste, in which it slapped him with a R475 million fine, labelled him the"mastermind" of the grand scam, said he'd"intentionally lied" at every turn, and accused him of puncturing investor confidence in the country. South Africans need to be in the know if we want to create a prosperous future.
