“It’s not going to be an easy game, but if we carry on with what we have been doing, we’ll go to the final,” says Kaizer Chiefs’ Daniel Cardoso ahead of their Telkom Knockout semifinal against Maritzburg United this afternoon
The difference between Kaizer Chiefs and their opponents so far this season has been Amakhosi’s ability to convert their chances.
While Serb Samir Nurkovic is steadily establishing himself as the outlet for goals, Cardoso has contributed to the cause, not only defensively, but his goals from spot kicks have also made the difference. “We’ve scored a lot of goals from set-plays,” said the 30-year-old, who is Chiefs’ designated penalty shooter.
Chiefs host Maritzburg United in the second semifinal of the Telkom Knockout at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga this afternoon as Amakhosi play for qualification for another cup final appearance in their quest to break the club’s four-and-a-half-year silverware drought. They recorded three straight wins in their past five league matches, including beating Cape Town City and holding off Pirates at Orlando Stadium last month. In fact, the Team of Choice have conceded just seven in the league, the same number as Chiefs.
“If you have been with a team before, you follow them more closely. I have seen their games. At the beginning of the season, they were having a bit of a stuttering start, but they have been successful in the past games, with a better position in the league and, of course, being in the semifinal.”
