Otis Bruce Jr., the former No. 2 prosecutor in the county, and victim-witness advocate Yolanda Johnson are seeking $21 million in damages.
The former No. 2 prosecutor at the Marin County District Attorney’s Office has filed a racial discrimination claim against the county that seeks $12 million in damages.
Under state law, people seeking damages from a public entity must file a claim with the entity prior to filing a lawsuit. In his claim, Bruce wrote that because of his race, age and sex he was retaliated and discriminated against by Frugoli, Chief Deputy District Attorney Rosemary Slote and Chief Deputy District Attorney Dori Ahana.
“I was denied participation in any ultimate decision making and specifically excluded from participating and giving input in the ultimate decision about the treatment of Deputy District Attorney, Cameron Jones,” Bruce wrote in his claim. In her claim, Johnson wrote that Frugoli’s “practice and pattern of racial discrimination created a hostile work environment in the Marin County District Attorney’s Office.”
