Dr. Imtiaz Sooliman, the founder of Gift of the Givers Foundation was the keynote speaker at the annual Marikana Commemoration lectureSibanye-Stillwater held its fourth annual Marikana Commemoration Lecture on Monday. The virtual event aimed to reflect on the process of renewal, engagement, and commitment, with a focus on investing in sustainable operations, communities, and people.

The archbishop acknowledged the burden of grief, uncertainty, and injustice borne by the victims' families. He praised their resilience in the face of adversity and emphasised the importance of unity and compassion. He pledged continued support for the families' healing journey and highlighted the significance of standing beside them.

The 1608 Memorial Trust is an educational trust which funds the educational needs of the dependants of those who died in the Marikana tragedyFundi highlighted the power of the mind as a valuable asset, noting how focused thoughts can shape one's reality. He emphasised their support for widows, assisting them in securing homes and enabling children's educational progress. Froneman praised the youth's efforts in seizing opportunities and recognised the importance of mutual understanding among stakeholders.

Speaking on the theme of nation-building, Sooliman highlighted the importance of a positive mindset and its role in overcoming challenges.
