Marcus Stroman will start on Opening Day for the BlueJays.

Scheduled for a March 28 contest against the Detroit Tigers at Rogers Centre, this is the second time in Stroman’s career he has been named the opening-day starter. The 27-year-old is coming off an injury-plagued 2018 campaign that saw him put up a career-worst 5.54 ERA in just 102.1 innings pitched over 19 starts.

The current plan for the Blue Jays rotation is for Matt Shoemaker, Aaron Sanchez, Ryan Borucki and Clayton Richard to follow Stroman, according to manager Charlie Montoyo. Montoyo added that the newly signed Clay Buchholz will not be ready for the start of the season as he didn’t arrive in spring training until March 5.
